Light
Pastor John Grosball

Sermon notes are a transcript from the sermon with only minor editing, retaining the conversational style.

When you were a little child were you afraid of the dark? Many little children are afraid of the dark. I want to study with you this morning a subject that is so big that we cannot even read all the Bible texts about it. It is all through the Bible. Jesus talked a lot about it. It is recorded a great deal in the gospel of John. It is about spiritual light. So we will have a Bible study about what the Bible says about spiritual light.

Our first text is in the gospel of John 8:12. "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." John 8:12. This is a divine promise. Jesus said, I am the Light of the world and if you follow Me, you will not be in the dark. You will have light and you will have light that will result in your having life.

"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." John 1:4. What is this light that we receive when we follow Jesus? One of the types of spiritual light that we receive when we follow Jesus is the light of prophecy.

"And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:19-21. So Bible prophecy is a light. He says it is like a light that shines in a dark place.

That is why we have prophecy seminars. That is why we study the books of Daniel and Revelation which were two books in the Bible that were written especially for the last days so that we will understand the times in which we are living. So we will understand history, the present time and also the future. The past, the present, and the future are all outlined in prophecy. If you study prophecy, you will not be surprised by what is coming on the world.

"But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, 'Peace and safety! then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-5.

The apostle Paul says, For the people of this world, those people that do not understand Bible prophecy, they are going to go on and all of a sudden, BANG, the second coming of Christ is going to occur; this world will end and it will come as an overwhelming surprise. Jesus said that, too. That is all through the New Testament that the second coming of Christ will come as an overwhelming surprise.

People will go on as usual. Jesus said that there would be marrying and giving in marriage. He said that it would be like it was in the days of Lot. People will be planting and building and working and planning and eating and carousing and having a good time. All of a sudden it will be like Noah. He got into the ark and all of a sudden the flood came and destroyed them all.

He said that it would be like that time at the end. But Paul says that is not going to happen to you, not to the Christian, because you are a child of the light. You have Bible prophecy and you know what is coming. It will not come on you as a thief. Do you want to be in the light? Do you want to walk in the light? Jesus said, if you follow Me, you will not be in the dark. You will have the light of life. You will be in the light.

Prophecy is a light. The reason prophecy is the light is because as it says in Revelation 19:10, "The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy." And Jesus is the light of the world and so what He tells His prophets is light because it comes from Him. He is the light. There is something else that is referred to in the Bible as spiritual light. Perhaps we should look back in the Old Testament and see how plainly it is stated in the book of Proverbs.

"For the commandment is a lamp; and the law a light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of light of life." Proverbs 6:23. It says that the law is a light. When you are driving at night, you need light.

I was working with an evangelist some years ago and he told me an experience he had during World War II. He was pulling a trailer with his car. Back in those days we did not have freeways yet, we just had two lane roads. It was at night and it was very dark. He said, "We were going along about fifty or fifty-five miles an hour and all of a sudden all the lights of my car went out. I could not see a thing."

That is a dangerous position to be in. I have never had an experience exactly like that. But when we were returning to college one time, we had a dangerous experience. Actually this happened to me twice. It happened once when I was driving the car. The second time I told my friend not to do it, but he had not had the experience yet, so he did it anyway. He tried to pass a road grader snowplow on the right hand side.

From the back you can see right through it. You can see the road clear up ahead and you think you can drive through. But once you get under there in about a split second, your car is covered with a foot or more of snow--if they are throwing very much. We were going about fifty miles an hour and it was up in the Blue Mountains near La Grande, Oregon.

We whipped past this snow grader and all of a sudden, just like that, everything went out--no light-- because we had about a foot of snow everywhere. You could not see a thing. There was another road grader just about three feet from us on the left and on the right hand side the road dropped off about two hundred feet! I am thankful to the Lord that He helped us get our car stopped before we ran into something. Everybody was very quiet in our car for a while after that.

It is a terrible thing to be in a car and to be going pell-mell down the road and all of a sudden to lose your lights and be in the dark. That is what happens to people when they do not have the law. They do not have any light. So when they do not have the law, they are in the dark because the law is light.

What does the law do for your home? Well, it saves your marriage. Read the seventh and the tenth commandments. What does the law do for your relationship with your family, your parents? Well, read the fifth commandment. It saves it. What does the law do for your relationship with God? There are some people that are so busy making a living that they work seven days a week and they have no time for God.

In fact, right now there are people in the hospital in Wichita and all over the world and one of the main reasons they are there is because they overworked for so many years that their bodies finally could not take it. They broke down and now they are in the hospital. It is that way all over the world. But that does not have to happen to you. You do not have to land in the hospital because of overwork. If you read the fourth commandment in the law, there is provision for your rest.

God said, "One day a week you do not have to work." In fact, in the law the Lord gave instructions that nobody had to work--not just the men. We, men, you know how we are. We would probably rest on the Sabbath and allow our wives to work. But God knew what we were like and he drew a line for the women as well as the men. He said, "You are supposed to do all your cooking on Friday. You will not be doing housework or any of those things on the Sabbath. That is the day to rest."

Not only the men and the women, but also the children are included. Read the fourth commandment. It includes your son, your daughter and all your servants. It includes everybody in human society. You get to rest.

So the law is a light it says in Proverbs 6:23. Gods word is a light, a spiritual light that keeps you from trouble. That is what light always does at night. When you are driving along at night and you turn the car lights on, that is to keep you out of trouble so you can see where you are going. Gods word is like alight.

The psalmist talks about this. This is a big subject in the Bible "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. . . The entrance of Your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." Psalm 119:105, 130. So the word of God gives people light so that they understand where they came from, why they are here and where they are going.

That is what light does. It reveals where you are, where you have come from and where you are going. We are living in a time described in Isaiah 60. This actually is a prophecy concerning the last days. "Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord hath risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth. And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you and His glory will be seen upon you." Isaiah 60:1,2.

What is this deep darkness that covers the earth and the people? They do not have the light of Gods word. Like a man that I knew. He was preaching in the church. I was in the audience listening. He told about his experience when he was in graduate school studying theology. Now you think that if you study theology that you would learn something about light because the Bible says that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.

But he sat in a philosophy class and when they finished the class they had a final test. The teacher told them, "For the final test, I want you to write a paper on what you learned from this class. So he went home and he thought, What did I learn from this class?

He wrote a very short paper. He was afraid that he would flunk the class, but he decided that he would tell the truth. And so he wrote on this piece of paper just one sentence what he had learned in that class. He wrote, "I learned in this class that man does not know where he came from, and he does not know why he is here and he does not know where he is going." That was in a graduate class, for people getting their doctors degree in the United States.

We are living in a time, the Bible says, when there is darkness all over the earth and gross darkness on the people. People do not know that they are designed to live forever and that they can be sons and daughters of God. They do not know where they came from. They think they came from a monkey or a mollusk or something. They do not know how they got here. They do not know what they are here for. And they certainly do not know where they are going.

They are in the dark. But Jesus said, I am the light of the world. If you follow me you will not be in the dark. You will be able to see where you are going. Are you in the light? if you are studying Gods word and His law, you will have light. You will be able to see where you are going. You will know where you came from, why you are here and where you are going.

The Bible says that for the righteous people, the path that they walk in will be a path of light. "The path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day." Proverbs 4:18. You follow the light and as you follow the light, it gets brighter and brighter.

Are you having that experience? Are you looking for the light? Are you following the light so that your path is getting brighter? You know where you came from and you know why you are here, what to do and what is going to happen in the future. That is the way your path will be if you walk in the light.

What does it mean to walk in the light? We talk about it, we have been reading Bible texts about it and saying that the path of the just is as a shining light, it gets brighter and brighter. But what does it mean in simple language to walk in the light?

"But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing whose minds the God of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bond-servants for Jesus sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:3-6.

Notice the light has to do with the knowledge of God and this knowledge of God is shining in the face of Jesus Christ. It is the light of the gospel and it is the light of the glory of God. It is the knowledge of God and this knowledge is shining in the face of Jesus Christ. Now what is this light that shines in the face of Jesus Christ? We will see what the Bible says it is.

The apostle John writes a great deal in all of his writings about this subject. 'This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:5-7.

So nobody will misunderstand, He makes it even plainer and even simpler than that. Here is what it means. "Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him." 1 John 2:8-11. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes."

So what does it mean to walk in the light? It means that all the hatred, the bitterness, the animosity, the strife, the negative emotions have been taken out of my heart and I love my brother. I do not hate him any more. That proves that I am walking in the light. In fact, when Jesus was here, he said, You have heard that you are to love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say to you, you should love your enemy. That is in Matthew 5, the Sermon on the Mount.

So what does it mean to walk in the light? It means that I love my brother. How do you tell? "We know we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this worlds goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3: 14-18.

So that is the test. It is a test that I am to apply to my heart and I am to ask myself the question, Do you not only love your brother but also do you love in deed as well in tongue or words? It is the test that the apostle John brings to bear upon our hearts over and over again when we read his writings. He says, This is the way you can tell whether or not you are walking in the light or whether or not you are actually in darkness.

The light of the knowledge of God that shines in the face of Jesus Christ that Paul talked about is the light of self-sacrificing love. That is what the light is. Have you seen the light? You see the light when you study the life of Christ. His whole life was a revelation of self-sacrificing love. As you study it, you are looking at the spiritual light. But if you walk in the light, you are not just looking at the light, you are starting to do the same things yourself. You are starting to follow in the same path.

Most people in Christs day and most people today refuse to walk in the light. They may see the light. They may like the light. They may say they are the children of the light. But they will not walk in it.

Now let us read about that. Jesus said this just a few days before His crucifixion. "Then Jesus said to them, a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of the light. These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them." John 12:35,36.

Jesus said, The light will only be with you a little while longer and you had better walk in the light while you have it or you will not have it any more. In other words, the light is moving. Have you ever been around a moving light? If the light is moving, you have to walk in it. Otherwise, if you stay where you are, eventually you will be in the dark.

The path of the just is a path where you walk and if you keep walking on the path, the light gets brighter and brighter until the perfect day. But what if you will not walk? You say, I have the light now. I will stay right here! But what happens then? Jesus said, While you have the light, walk in it. Do not stand still. Somebody said, "Oh, Pastor John, my grandfather was a minister. And he did not understand all this truth of Bible prophecy. He was a godly man, sol think I will just believe what he believed." That is the fastest road to hell fire that I know!

Just stand still! Your grandfather in the Day of Judgment will be judged on the light that he had. Your grandfather was not as close to the end of the world as you are. Do you believe that? That is the easy part. Now here is the hard part. You and I will be judged on the amount of light that was in the past where we are. Do we have more Bible truth and more understanding of prophecy today than in the days of your grandfather? Yes, we do.

We have more light from the Bible today than our grandfathers had and we cannot say to the Lord, Well, Lord, I am trying to live up to all the light that my grandfather knew. People say to me about some relative they had a long time ago, Well, this person was a godly person. They did not keep the seventh-day Sabbath. Of course, they did not; they did not know about it.

Let us read about that very thing. "If there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have." 2 Corinthians 8:12. Your grandfather or your great-grandfather, no matter how godly they were, they did not have all the light of truth that you have and so they will not judged on the light that you have. They will be judged on the light that they had.

But you and I will be judged on the light that we have. We have more light today than they had. You see, when Jesus came, there was a greater flood of spiritual light that was poured upon the world than at any previous time. Since the people had more light, they were more accountable. People do not like to hear this.

The more light that God has given to you, the more accountable you are. Does that make sense? Do you expect that of your children? If you children have more information, do you expect more from them because they know more? Do you expect more from your older children than you do from the younger children? Do you expect more from a twelve-year-old child that you did when that child was four years old? God does, too.

But what happened in Jesus day was that the majority of the people rejected the light. Do you know that the same thing that was happening in Jesus day has been happening ever since?

"As the light and life of men was rejected by the ecclesiastical authorities in the days of Christ, so it has been rejected in every succeeding generation. Again and again the history of Christs withdrawal from Judea has been repeated. When the reformers preached the word of God, they had not thought of separating themselves from the established church; but the religious leaders would not tolerate the light, and those that bore it were forced to seek another class, who was longing for the truth. In our day few of the professed followers of the reformers are actuated by their spirit. Few are listening for the voice of God, and ready to accept truth in whatever guise it may be presented. Often those who follow in the steps of the reformers are forced to turn away from the churches they love, in order to declare the plain teaching of the word of God. And many times, those who are seeking for light are by the same teaching obliged to leave the church of their fathers, that they may render obedience." The Desire of Ages, 232.

Oh, somebody says, Pastor John, that could not be! You mean if you walk in the light, you will leave the church? That is exactly what we just read. That is exactly what millions of people have been forced to do. God gave them more light. Let me review a little history with you. There was a time when there were people who were proscribed for their faith.

Have you heard of a man by the name of Menno Simons? That is where we get the term Mennonites. Menno Simons was a very godly man. They sent out notices all over the country where he lived to kill him. The Lord did not allow them to find him and kill him. He died a natural death, even though they tried to martyr him over and over again. The people in those days that were studying what he had been studying in the Bible found out that baptism did not mean anything without faith.

In the state church as soon as you were born, you were sprinkled. As soon as you were sprinkled, you were said to be baptized. They said, "No, that is not according to the Bible." There is no text in the Bible where it talks about an infant being baptized. Jesus was not baptized when He was a baby. He was thirty years old before He was baptized.

As they read the Bible, they said, There is no example in the Bible for infant baptism. They said, You have to be old enough to know what you are doing to manifest faith in order to be baptized. So they called them the Anabaptists; that meant that you believed that you had to be baptized again. Everybody in the country was baptized (sprinkled) when they were babies, but the people that studied said, "That was not really baptism. You have to be baptized by immersion after you become old enough to know what you are doing.

They only asked one question of many of the martyrs. "Have you been baptized again?" If you had been baptized again, that was enough to be off with your head. So why did these Mennonite people not just stay with the Lutheran Church or with the Presbyterian Church? They could not. They were forced out.

That is why you have so many Protestant Churches. As people studied the Bible and followed the truth and the Lord revealed more and more truth and the other people said, No! We will not go that far! At every stage there was somebody that would know this much truth. For example in the Lutheran Church they knew that it was wrong to worship the Pope. They also knew that it was wrong to confess your sins to a human priest. They knew the Bible was the word of God, but there were many of them that said, "We will not go any farther!" The Anabaptists went farther. In the 1 840s there were people in Protestant Churches all over the world that had accepted truth. But God had a final message to give to the world, it is found in Revelation 14:6-12. The Lord would have been glad to send this message to the world through the Baptists, the Methodists, the Presbyterians or the Christian Church, but they refused it.

So that is why there are people in the world today that are called Seventh-day Adventists. "The churches that refused to receive the first angels message rejected light from heaven. That message was sent in mercy to arouse them to see their true condition of worldliness and backsliding, and to seek a preparation to meet their lord. God has even required His people to remain separate from the world, that they might not be allured from their allegiance to Him. .. The children of this world are the children of darkness." Spirit of Prophecy, vol.4,230.

But when God sent a message to these people to prepare them for the soon coming of Christ, they had to accept this light. Some of them were farther along in the path of light than others, but most of them said, "We will not go any farther." In fact, it got so bad that in the Methodist Church the Harmon family were told that they would be disfellowshipped from the church because they believed in the Second Coming of Christ. The church would not allow anybody to talk about the Second Coming of Christ any more.

I have heard people say, "I know about all that but it will not happen in the Adventist Church." Do not be too quick to say that before you have read what inspired writing says about our dangers as a people. The last remnant people, the people that have been walking in the light know the truth about the judgment, the Sabbath, the truth that Martin Luther knew about the Bible and the priesthood of the believers. They knew the truth that the Mennonites knew about baptism by immersion. They know all that. But still, look what can happen.

"The days are fast approaching when there will be great perplexity and confusion. Satan, clothed in angel robes will deceive, if possible, the very elect. There will be gods many and lords many. Every wind of doctrine will be blowing. Those who have rendered supreme homage to 'science, falsely so called, will not be the leaders then. Those who have trusted to intellect, genius, or talent will not stand at the head of rank and file. They did not keep pace with the light." Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, 80.

Did you see what the problem was? The light was shining but they did not keep pace with it and it went out. How is it in your life? Do you know some truth? You say, "Well, I will not follow that truth right now. I will later, but not right now. If you know the truth and you do not follow it, Jesus said it will go out and you will be in the dark.

There are such people all over Wichita. I know many of them. I have visited in their homes. I have talked to them and they have told me, "Pastor John, I know that the seventh day is the Sabbath. I know that the fourth commandment is so and I know where Sunday keeping came from--right out of Paganism. I know it was baptized into the Christian churches in the Dark Ages. I have studied the history and I know all about that. In fact, I know one person that at his work can absolutely put anyone in the corner if he does not believe in the Sabbath. He can prove to anyone that Sunday is wrong. But, he does not keep the Sabbath himself!"

There are thousands of them. They know what the truth is. They have seen the light of truth but they are not following it. They are not walking in it. They know what it is, but what did Jesus say would happen if you do not walk in the light? It will go out and you will be in the dark.

She says, "In the last solemn work few great men will be engaged. They are self-sufficient, independent of God and He cannot use them." Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, 80. Ellen White wrote: "The Spirit of God is departing from many among our people. Many have entered into dark, secret paths, and some will never return. They will continue to stumble to their ruin. They have tempted God, they have rejected light. All the evidence that will ever be given them they have received, and have not heeded. They have chosen darkness rather than light, and have defiled their souls. No man or church can associate with a pleasure-loving class, and reveal that they appreciate the rich current of truth which the Lord has sent to those who have simple faith in His word." The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, 1335.

I do not know if you caught the implications of that sentence or not. It is worth spending a little time thinking about. She says that nobody can even associate with these people and be saved. They have not only refused to accept the message but also they have hated the light. These men are parties to the ruin of souls. They know what the light is, but they will not walk in it.

Oh, friends, it is happening all around. How and why does such an awful thing happen? I put down here about four reasons. Number 1. "Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. Then Jesus cried out and said, 'He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness." John 12:42-46.

And they could not stand it, because they said, We are the people of God. We are in the light. Jesus said, No you are not; you are in the dark. The only way you can come out of the dark is if you will look to me and get the light from Me and then you will not stay in the dark. But we saw the reason why they did not do it. Why do people reject the light? They believed in the light. They believed He was the Messiah but they would not acknowledge it.

Why would they not acknowledge it? The modern equivalent of the word synagogue is Church. If they accepted all the truth that the Lord allowed to shine on their pathway, they would be disfellowshipped from their church. A person said, "Pastor John, that could not possibly be so. It could not possibly be that God would want me to get put out of my church."

That is what they thought. If they accepted the light, they would lose their friends. They would lose their social standing. They would become unpopular with all the people that knew them including their friends or relatives. They would become outcasts. That is what the twelve disciples experienced. They lost their former friends. When you accept the light and start walking up the path of light, you do lose your former friends.

Let us see why you lose your former friends. "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness." 2 Corinthians 6:14. You have no common ground anymore. There is no communion between the light and darkness. So you lose your former friends.

Now let me tell you the good news. If you choose to walk in the light and follow the path of light, you will not only lose your old friends but you will gain new friends. They will be the other people that are walking in the light. And here is the really good news. Those people will be your friends forever.

Most important of all, Jesus said, If you follow Me, you will be in the light. So who will be with you if you are in the light? The Lord Himself will be with you. He will never forsake you. You have a friend in Him that will stick closer than a brother. He will never leave you. Yes, you will lose some friends. You will be unpopular with some people, but you will gain some new friends. The people that are walking in the light.

Here is reason Number 2. Why do people refuse to walk in the light? Because they would have to change the way they live. I have discovered that this is bad news for the older people. The older we get the more we become set in our ways and the harder it gets to change. I have studied and observed enough that I always get a little bit uneasy on these second marriages where I see people fifty, sixty and seventy years old who have lost their spouses by death and remarry.

I say to myself, these people are so set in their ways, will they be able to blend or not? We get set in our ways as we get older. We do not want to change. But you have to be able to change in order to walk in the light. If the light is not going the way lam going, if I am going to walk in the light, I have to change.

There are a lot of people that will be lost because they are not willing to change. They want the Lord to accommodate them the way they are. This is what the Lord said to the apostle Paul that he was to do. You are "to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me." Acts 26:18.

You are to turn. That means you have to change. They do not want to turn. They want to stay the way they are. As one man said to me, "I want to do it MY way." You can do it your way as long as you are in this world, but you will not go to heaven that way. We have to turn if we are going to walk in the light.

Here is reason Number 3. This is Jesus speaking to Nicodemus. "This is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God." John 3:19-21.

II Thessalonians 2 talks about the people that had pleasure in unrighteousness. They did not receive the love of the truth because they were having pleasure in their sins. The Bible says in Hebrews that there are temporary pleasures in sin and there are people that will not walk in the light because the light exposes their sinful lives and they do not want to change. They love darkness rather than light, Jesus says. That is happening not only in the world today, it is happening in the church.

Here is reason Number 4. They love darkness more than light and the reason they love the darkness more than the light was because the light revealed something that they did not want to see. "Jesus said, 'For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind." John 9:39.

Why are they made blind? Because they turned their eyes from the light. They do not want to see. The light shows them something about themselves they did not want to see. So they turned away from it. "Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them (That has a great deal of meaning to Seventh-day Adventists today). For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: 'Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." Ephesians 5:11-14.

Would you like to get Out of the darkness and walk in the light that will take you to eternal life? Do you want to walk in the light? Are you willing to say, I am willing to lose my friends that are in the darkness that will not come to the light. I know that when I get in the light, I will have new friends. You can have the other people as friends that are walking in the light.

And most of all, you will be with the One Who is the Light. He will walk with you and never forsake you. Do you want to have that experience of walking in the light, walking according to the commandments of the Lord, walking according to the light of Bible prophecy, following the example of Jesus in your life so that you will love your brethren?

And from your heart, even love your enemies! Do you want to have that experience? You know, friends, we have to have this experience if we are going to go to heaven. We have to be walking in the light if we are going to go to heaven. There will not be a single person in heaven that has turned his back on any light that God has shown him. The only people there will be walking in all the light they had. Do you want to walk in the light?

I would like to invite you to kneel down and pray with me. Let us pray that the Lord will help us to wake up and to walk in the light.
